This book is founded on the concept of problem-based learning. The aim of this book is to get the students of Health and Medical Sciences aware of the basic biochemical principles and to practice these principles in analyzing commonly occurring health-associated problems in terms of their biochemical components. The text, although clinically relevant, is not meant to cover Biochemistry in its totality. The contents of the book have been divided into 10 chapters, each with a different underlying clinical concept. The basic principle is to understand the applications of Biochemistry in terms of solving the problems related to diseases; laboratory data interpretations, spot diagnosis, getting familiar with the significance of laboratory tests, uses of equipment, techniques and knowing the deviations of biochemical processes in various clinical settings.

The book provides a multitude of clinical problems, real or constructed to examine the student’s capacity to deal with clinical situations. The answers are offered along with problems or at the end of chapters The purpose of this book is not to describe clinical practice and management, rather it is to demonstrate how biochemistry can and does provide valuable insight for such practice and management.
